Anybody who is looking for a really mild OR trail, the Big Frog Mtn Loop that runs along the TN/GA border off of FS221 is open and mostly clear. Good surface, but a lot of trees down/cut. Bring a saw.
This is a well-maintained, gated FS road that is the access point for Hemp Top and Beech Bottom trails. I haven’t been up to this area for dozens of years… though I’ve hiked and ridden MTBs on this route, it’s a relatively new “road” connection. Again… BRING A SAW.
A cheap but effective LED light and spare batteries in the glove compartment.
A 24F OEM battery from a 2017 Toyota Tacoma, taken off at 42K miles. Includes tray and strap. Does not include meter.
Replaced this battery because it tended to leak a little water and acid during bouncy and steep off-road driving.
Battery is in good shape and fully charged. Strap shows some corrosion from fluid leakage. Battery does not leak under normal use, only under extreme use such as high speed on rough forest roads, or steep off-road conditions.
Some days I’m running late for legit reasons.
PM2 with digital camo scales and plain black blade.
A few basic or cheap knives for tasks, kits, and EDC.
11 years of progression. All mountain has come a long way. The old Heckler now feels like a BMX bike, compared to the big wheel modern enduro.
Just got some new tires, so far so good on Georgia inland desert conditions during July 2019. Hopefully it rains and we’ll get some clay compaction. Otherwise… Georgia = Gobi.
